Gerd was an Afrika Korps soldier serving under Feldwebel Schroeder. He'd served with Schroeder in Libya. A cynical man who was tired of the war, he accused Schroeder of being a Nazi fanatic and refused to participate in the fighting, and so Schroeder shot him.
